Behind AverDesk

Your IT.
In context.

AverDesk is one place where your company's IT makes sense: the equipment, the services, the people who look after them and the daily requests, all linked into one picture that anyone in the company can read.

A description that lives with the service

Usually a service is described in a document that goes stale a week after someone writes it. We wanted the description to live inside the service model itself: which servers it runs on, which ports it uses, which outside services it needs, where it comes back up if a site fails. Operations, developers and the security team all read the same current model.

The AverDesk team

Built by people
who know IT from the inside.

We have worked in IT for more than 25 years. In that time we ran IT in small companies and in very large ones, and each had its own troubles and its own idea of what IT is for.

More than 10 of those years we spent in companies with over 100,000 employees. At that size you learn quickly how much depends on a current map of your systems, on knowledge that stays when people leave, and on a picture the whole team shares.

The data is there.
The links are missing.

A company’s IT is servers, programs, cloud services, laptops, networks, licences, and the people who keep it all running. What the team knows about it is spread across user directories, monitoring tools, support tickets, wiki pages, spreadsheets and people’s heads.

Each place holds one piece. As the company grows, simple questions get hard to answer: what does this service run on, who owns it, what breaks if we change it? AverDesk brings the records and the links between them into one place, so the answer takes a click instead of a round of phone calls.

Our belief

IT should be one
environment people can understand.

A place where everything is connected, nothing gets lost when people change jobs, every change is visible, and people make decisions with the whole picture in front of them.

The living memory of IT

Keep the knowledge
with the organization.

Picture a Monday morning. The mail server is down, and the engineer who set it up left in the spring. Along with that engineer, the team lost the reasons behind old decisions, the memory of who owned what, and how the systems hang together. We want that knowledge to stay with the company, written down where the next person will find it.

  • Why is this server set up this way?
  • Who is responsible for the service?
  • Which systems depend on it?
  • Why does this rule exist?
  • What changed, and when?
  • Who could be affected by the next change?

Nobody has to sit down and write all this up. The picture stays current while people do their normal work: data arrives from imports, from the company staff directory (a read-only sync with AD/LDAP) and from your own scripts through the API. The change history of every field shows what changed and when.
